Ireland West Africa Business & Economic Council (IWABEC) is a non governmental private sector initiative since 2004 and the Council incorporated in Ireland with foundation members opting for a holistic approach to investment and trade led, equal partnership between Ireland and the sub region using the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) countries protocols.

The agreed mandate is the promotion and development of trade, investment, industrial, educational, cultural and technological cooperation between Ireland and member states and organs of ECOWAS. IWABEC is a multilateral vehicle for the attainment of development and progress, elimination of poverty and agent of prosperity for the West Africa region and a conduit for new markets for Irish industry and business.

The projection and promotion of West Africa as a region of significant economic interest to Ireland and its business community as well as state actors, are among the core goals of IWABEC.
